Production: The grapes fully ripe for Villa Maria East Coast Chardonnay are ground in the winery and pressed gently through Kaltsedimentation previously clarified, the musts and then fermented at low temperatures to a maximum of aromatic fruit and to preserve freshness. Some games run by the malolactic fermentation, the remaining wine (with regular stirring of the Hefelagers) expanded on the lees to give the East-Coast-blend structure and the unique smooth richness on the palate.
General: The Private Bin East Coast Chardonnay is a so-called inter-regional blend of grapes from different regions of New Zealand Chardonnay. Gisborne 2009 provides the largest share (75%), the rest comes from Hawkes Bay (17%) and Marlborough (8%). The grapes from the north to Gisborne, the hottest wine-growing region of the country, give the wine power and richness, further east, in Hawkes Bay dominate, juicy, fruity aromas of stone fruit (peach), while grapes from Marlborough, in the South Island of New Zealand, sophistication, elegance and the dense structure to contribute. The vineyards are cultivated according to the prevailing micro-climate, so as to preserve the typical regional expression of the grapes fully.
